ERASMUS+ at the University of Kiel

ERASMUS is the successful EU's flagship education and training programme and it has been a great success. It has been funding cooperation among higher education institutions across Europe since 1987. It supports students, professors and business staff who want to go abroad, and it helps university staff pursue additional training. Nearly 3 million students and approximately 300,000 lecturers have organised their stay in other countries through ERASMUS. The EU's current framework programme "Lifelong Learning (LLP)" ended in December 2013, and thus the former ERASMUS programme.

ERASMUS+ is the new programme proposed by the European Commission for education, training, youth and sport. It starts in 2014 and will significantly increase the funds allocated for the development of knowledge and skills. Up to 5 million people, almost twice as many as now, could get the chance to study or train abroad with a grant from Erasmus+. Among them will be nearly 3 million higher education and vocational students.

The student exchange is based on bilateral agreements reached by the faculty of the individual academic departments of Kiel University with partner institutions abroad. Currently a total of about 400 ERASMUS contracts are available at the departmental level (with 210 partner institutions).
